Mailing Lists

LNO maintains a mailing list server which allows members of the LTER Network community to have electronic discussion groups. LNO supports group mailing lists for all standing committees, ad-hoc committees, topical interest groups, and synthesis working groups that request. These lists are all of the form "groupname"@LTERnet.edu. These lists are restricted and protected from UBE (unwanted bulk email) and malware by spam and virus scanners. Lists can be configured to keep archives, which are backed up and accessible for the life of the list. Lists can also be public or private.

Personal Email Aliases

LNO maintains email aliases for individuals in the LTER Network. These aliases are of the form "username"@LTERnet.edu. These aliases are protected from UBE (unwanted bulk email) and malware by spam and virus filters.

Spam and Virus Protection

LNO maintains SPAM (UBE - Unwanted Bulk Email) and Malware (virus, trojan horse, etc.) protection on all incoming and outgoing email including all mailing lists, aliases, and webmail accounts. LNO uses ClamAV and SpamAssasin - both open-source applications.

Webmail

LNO maintains a web browser based email client for LNO staff and individuals in the network that request it. The client is an open-source IMAP client.
