Duane is Analyst/Programmer for the Network Information Systems, where his accomplishments include the completion of the Metacat Harvester, the development of a web application for performing advanced searches on Metacat, and tools to convert LTER legacy metadata to EML.

Duane holds a B.S. in Respiratory Therapy (University of Rhode Island, 1978), and is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with seven years clinical experience in adult and pediatric respiratory care at a 719-bed acute-care hospital and level-one trauma center. After completing a M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Rhode Island in 1986, Duane worked at the University's Department of Chemistry as a principal developer of the Chem-Tutor and ChemScholar intelligent tutoring systems for college chemistry instruction.

Before joining LTER, Duane worked for ABAQUS, Inc., the world's leading provider of software for advanced finite element analysis. As a lead developer in the Development Tools Group, he worked on a suite of software tools that were critical for the daily productivity of the company's 100-plus software engineers and technical writers. His areas of expertise included build automation, software configuration management, and regression testing.

When he is not programming, Duane likes to go hiking, gardening, studying nature, and exploring the great Southwest.
